Cracked Tooth Syndrome 101

Posted .

Do you think you may have cracked tooth syndrome? Or are you just curious to know more about it? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Adam Vitelli Comprehensive Dentistry would be honored to answer your queries. Here are some frequently asked questions about CTS:

What is it?

Cracked tooth syndrome happens when a tooth has a crack that is too small to show up on an X-ray or is under the gum and thus difficult to find.

What are the symptoms of CTS?

A patient may have pain or discomfort when biting down or tooth sensitivity.

What are the causes?

Some factors include teeth grinding, abnormal bites, and teeth with large fillings or root canals. Often the cause is a combination of multiple issues.

How is CTS diagnosed?

Since the crack and its symptoms are so hard to identify, many people may have a cracked tooth for months without knowing. An oral exam, dental history, radiographs and the use of a fiber optic handpiece can all assist in the diagnosis.

What treatments are available?

Depending on the location and severity of the fracture, Dr. Adam Vitelli may recommend dental bonding, a crown, a root canal, or in extreme cases a tooth extraction.
